What This Means

Removes the enlarged inner portion of the prostate that’s blocking urine flow. This is NOT a total prostate removal — it’s for BPH, not cancer. Think of the prostate like an orange: we remove the fruit (adenoma) but leave the peel (capsule) intact.

Surgical Priorities

The robotic simple prostatectomy is planned around three core objectives.

1. Symptom Relief

Dramatic improvement in urinary flow. Patients typically notice a significant difference immediately after catheter removal.

2. Durability

The most definitive BPH procedure for large prostates over 80 grams. Unlike other BPH treatments, retreatment rates are extremely low.

3. Minimally Invasive

Turns a traditionally major open operation into outpatient surgery. Smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery compared to the open approach.

The Process

Outpatient Protocol

PRE-OP
Evaluation of symptoms, urodynamic testing if indicated, and surgical counseling to review expectations and alternatives.
SURGERY DAY
Procedure takes 2–3 hours. Typically same-day discharge — most patients go home the same day.
DAY 7
Catheter removal and office follow-up. Most patients notice immediate improvement in urinary flow.
WEEKS 2–4
Return to full activity. Urinary symptoms continue to improve as healing progresses.
