Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy

Rezūm is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — the noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that causes bothersome urinary symptoms in millions of men. The procedure uses the natural energy stored in water vapor (steam) to shrink excess prostate tissue that is blocking urine flow.

During the procedure, a small device is inserted through the urethra and delivers brief, targeted injections of steam directly into the obstructing prostate tissue. The thermal energy causes the treated cells to die and be gradually absorbed by the body over the following weeks, opening up the urinary channel and improving symptoms.

Rezūm was FDA-cleared in 2015 and is supported by robust clinical data through five years of follow-up. It is recommended by the American Urological Association as a treatment option for BPH.

Rezūm is best suited for men with small to medium-sized prostates (approximately 30–80 grams) who have bothersome urinary symptoms from BPH. You may be a good candidate if:

• BPH medications are not providing adequate relief or you want to stop taking them
• You are experiencing side effects from BPH medications (dizziness, sexual dysfunction, fatigue)
• You prefer a less invasive alternative to TURP or HoLEP
• Preserving sexual function is a priority
• You want a procedure that can be done in the office rather than an operating room

Rezūm can also treat an enlarged median lobe, which not all minimally invasive BPH therapies can address. Dr. Radtke will evaluate your prostate size, anatomy, and symptom severity to determine if Rezūm is the right fit — or whether another procedure such as HoLEP or robotic simple prostatectomy would provide a better outcome.
