What This Means

Complete removal of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles for prostate cancer using the da Vinci robotic system. The robotic platform provides magnified 3D visualization and wristed instrumentation, allowing for precise dissection through small incisions.

Surgical Priorities

Every robotic radical prostatectomy is planned around three core objectives, addressed in order of importance.

1. Cancer Control

Complete removal of the malignancy with clear surgical margins. This is always the primary goal — ensuring all cancer is removed.

2. Urinary Control

Meticulous anatomical dissection to preserve the structures responsible for continence, facilitating the fastest possible return to urinary control.

3. Sexual Function

Nerve sparing when oncologically safe. The extent of nerve preservation is determined by tumor location and grade, always prioritizing cancer control first.

The Process

Outpatient Protocol

PRE-OP
Comprehensive evaluation, surgical counseling, and setting realistic expectations for recovery and outcomes.
SURGERY DAY
Procedure takes 2–3 hours. Performed as outpatient surgery — most patients walk the same day with no overnight hospital stay required.
DAY 7
Catheter removal and office visit. Review of pathology results and discussion of next steps.
WEEKS 3–6
Return to full activity. Most patients resume normal daily routines within this window.
