Robotic Partial Nephrectomy

A kidney-sparing approach to removing kidney tumors.

Book Consultation →
What This Means

Removes only the tumor and a small margin, leaving the rest of the kidney intact and functioning. Dr. Radtke was the first urologist in Wisconsin to use intraoperative 3D modeling for this procedure, allowing for precise surgical planning and enhanced tumor localization.

Surgical Priorities

Every robotic partial nephrectomy balances three critical goals.

1. Cancer Control

Complete tumor removal with clear surgical margins. Intraoperative 3D modeling, when applicable, helps ensure precise excision of the tumor.

2. Kidney Preservation

Maximizing healthy tissue preserved for long-term kidney function. Preserving as much normal kidney as possible reduces the risk of future kidney disease.

3. Minimizing Complications

Minimizing blood loss and reducing warm ischemia time — the period when blood flow to the kidney is temporarily paused during tumor removal.

The Process

Outpatient Protocol

PRE-OP
Detailed imaging review and 3D modeling when applicable. Surgical planning tailored to tumor size, location, and complexity.
SURGERY DAY
Procedure takes 2–4 hours. Most patients go home the same day.
WEEK 1–2
Follow-up visit and pathology review. Discussion of final tumor staging and any additional recommendations.
WEEKS 4–6
Return to full activity. Kidney function monitored with lab work at scheduled intervals.
